Talents/Gifts: 12 Causal factors Why Most People Are Not Using Their Talents
This article seek to bring to the awareness of people why
most people are not using their talents. What is that thing preventing you from
using your talent or talents. First and foremost, what is a talent or a gift?
Talent or gift is a natural abilities or qualities. Everyone has a talent or have talents. This
means that, every person is born with a talent or talents. If every person is
born with a talent or talents, why are most people not using their talents?
Here are some causal factors why most people are not using their talents or
gifts:
1. 1. Jealousy: jealousy is an enemy of life. It shortens one’s life. You lose you focus and give in to distraction. Jealousy is big distraction on your way to the top. Instead of concentrating on what you should be doing or should do, you will be distracted to something else you are not supposed to do.
Jealousy hinders people from using their talents. Your jealousy weigh you down and pulls you backward from achieving what you should actually achieved. You spend your time to jealous other people talents while your talent is as good as what you are admiring.
When they are busy using their talents, you
are busy with your negligence of your works or duties. Jealousy is making many
people not to multiply or use their talents.
2. 2. They are admiring or liking other people’s talents better or more than their own/they prefer the talents of other people better than their own: We tend to admire other people talents more than the ones we have. The people talents that you are admiring or liking more than your own are not bigger or better or more important than your own. You are admiring them because they are using their own talents. If they are not using their talents just like you, you would not be admiring them.
We love people who are powerful but we
often fail to know that they are powerful because they are using their gifts.
We admire or love the benefits or gains of using their talents but the pains of
using their talents, we detest strongly. Most people do not use their talents
because they are admiring the talents of others more than their own.
3. 3. They think that the talents of other people are better than their own: Most people out of ignorance, always think that the talents of other people are better than their own. They look down on their own talents. When you are fond of belittling your gift, you will lose interest in your gift. That gift no longer mean anything to you.
There are many people whose talents make no
sense to them simply because they belittle their talents. The truth here is
that no one talent is better than the other. They are all equal. What count or
matter is your ability to use your talents or talent? The more you think that
other people talents are better than your own, you will never use your talent.
4. 4. They are too busy counting other people’s talents or blessings: There are people who take pleasure in counting other people blessing. They often do that as if God is not blessing them. When you are too busy counting people’s blessing, you will have no time counting your own. The more you keep counting other people blessing, the more anger and bitter you become.
These category of people, always like to think that God is very partial, He blesses others except them. They fail to know that blessings are outcomes or results or benefits of hard work. Your blessings will only come when you are hardworking. The act of counting other people blessing filled your heart with hatred. Many people had lost their lives as a result of this.
When you are busy counting other people
blessing, you tend to lose your concentration and focus. People must learn only
to count their own blessings because God is not partial. Like the servant who
fail to use his talent, most people do not get to use their talents because
they are busy counting the talents of other people around them.
5. 5. They buried their talents: In the story of the talents, one of the servant went and buried his talent. He did that either because, he was not satisfied with his own gift or he did not like his talent or he prefer the talents of the other servants or because he does not want to work or kill himself to multiply the talent or because he was thinking his master was wicked or for other reasons best known to him.
Like the servant in the story who buried
his talent, most people are not using their talents because they have buried
their talents. Until, people make the effort of unburying their talents, they
will never get to use those talents.
6. 6. Bitterness of heart: in this story of the talents, the servant that went to bury his talent, do so out of annoyance or anger or bitterness of heart. He was bitter probably because, he was given the least number of talents or because he was doubting himself.
He actually doubt himself or his ability to
use the talent given to him by his master. Or he thinks, his master wants to
reap where he did not sow, or that his master was demanding much or too much
from him. Bitterness of heart has made so many people not use their talents.
7. 7. Loss of focus: In using one’s talent or talents, focusing on what one wants to do and what he or she should do is very critical and necessary. If you lose focus on what you want to do and should do and be doing, you will lose touch with your talent or talents. Most people are yet to find or discover their talents because of loss of focus.
And for the same reason, they are unable to
use their talents. People tend to achieve more, what they focus more. In line
with one’s cherished purposes, you can never get to use your talent or achieve
your dreams when there loss of focus.
8. 8. Laziness/Slothfulness: laziness is the inactivity one experienced as a consequences of dislike for work. It is the apathy and inactivity in the practice of virtue (personified as one of the deadly sins). The word apathy means an absence of emotion or enthusiasm. It is the trait of lacking enthusiasm for or interest in things generally.
Inactivity is a disposition to remain inactive or inert. When you dislike work, you will definitely become lazy the more. Lazy people always live to eat. Slothfulness is a disinclination to work or exert yourself. It is disinclination, hesitancy, hesitation, indisposition, and reluctance to work or take action or be active.
Most people do not get to use their gift
because of negligence, inadvertency, and the likes. Using your gift is work.
When you show disinclination to work or indisposition to action or hesitation
to take a step or action, how can you use your gift? You cannot be able to use
your gift.
9. 9. They are yet to find or discover their gifts: Most people are yet to find or discover their talents either because loss of focus or lack of interest or negligence. When you are yet to find or discover your talent, you cannot be able to use it. Until you discover and develop your talent, that is when you can be able to use it properly.
Most people are still looking or searching
for their talents because, they do not want to work that hard. And because they
do not want to work that hard, they face unnecessary difficulties finding their
talents. So the reason most people are not using their talents is because they
are yet to find their talents.
10. 10. Lack or loss of interest in using their gifts: Loss of interest is another major challenge of most people on why they are not using their talents. When you lose interest in something, it will affect your mindset or mentality as such. Interest play a vital role in using one’ talent.
You may have found your talent or you may
know your talent but developing and using it is the attribute or function of
strong interest. Knowing your talent and then not developing and using it is a
characteristic of loss or lack of interest in your talent.
11. 11. They do not like the way or how God distributed or shared the talents: Most times, people tend to blame or criticize God in the way and manner He shared the gifts. They believe that the sharing is not okay or correct. They keep asking, how can God share talents in the manner He did?
To them, God give some people big talents and to some others, He give small talents. He give to some people attractive talents and to others unattractive talents. And so, the complaint goes. Is God really partially in the way He gives the talents? No! God gives talents according to individual capabilities or abilities to cope or handle the talents.
The truth is that even though you have the
least talent, you can multiply and then increase it to as many as you want.
That is why man is a bundle of talents.
12. 12. Some people think that they do not have talents: some people think that they do not have a talent but the truth is that everyone has a talent or a gift. The poor thought of people, is really affecting them negatively. This kind of thought makes most people to believe that God did not bless them with a gift.
This negative thought makes most people to
accept that they are not even good enough to be endowed with talents. Hear me!
You are blessed or endowed with talents. Find yours, develop and use it. When
people think that they do not have talents, when will they think of using it?
So, most people are not using their talents because they think that they do not
have talents.
13. 13. Talents are lucks: It is believed that talent are lucks. Many people are not lucky to stumble on their talents. The word lucky means blessed with good fortune. It is fortune in an unexpected way. It means favored by luck, fortunate, meeting with good success or good fortune. Many people cannot find their talent not because they are lazy, but because talents are lucks.
Luck is an unknown and unpredictable phenomenon that leads to a favorable outcome. It is an unknown and unpredictable phenomenon that causes an event to result one way rather than another. Luck is not what you plan for. It is something that no one can control. That is why it is a phenomenon.
Phenomenon is that which strikes one as
strange, unusual, or unaccountable; an extraordinary or very remarkable person,
thing or occurrence. It is prodigy, wonder, marvel, and miracle. Many people never get to use their talents
because talents are lucks.
14. 14. Willful neglect of their talents/Delinquency: Willful neglect or delinquency means a tendency to be negligent and uncaring. Delinquency is also antisocial misdeed or misbehavior of not wanting to give or share your gift with others. In the parable of the talents, one of the servant went and buried his talent out of annoyance or delinquency.
He purposely or intentionally buried his talent in order displease the master or annoy the master. Because he was not satisfied with the sharing pattern used by the master in the sharing of the talents. So, that negative act or behavior is delinquency, because the relationship between the master and his servants was like that of the father and his children.
Uncaring means lacking affection or warm feeling. Using your gift will affect other people positively. But, because of lack of affection or warm feeling for others, the servant refuse using his talent.
Negligent is when your behavior is characterized by neglect and undue lack of concern. When you neglect and show undue lack of concern towards using your talent or toward your duties, you are negligent.
It is your responsibility or duty to use
your talent or talents, because you will give account of how you use it or
them. So the failure to use your talents is negligent. Willful neglect of one’s
talents and or delinquency is one of the reason most people are not using their
talents.
15. 15. Doubt/Self-doubt: self-doubt is lack of self-confidence. It is synonymous with hesitance, hesitancy, unassertiveness, timidity, timidness, timorousness. Doubt is the state of being unsure of something. When you are doubting yourself, you will lose your confidence. When you lose your confidence, you will not be able to do what you can really do.
Doubt or self-doubt weakens your mind and
strength. You will end up not being able to resist your resistances or flimsy
excuses. Even, when you know your talent, you will not be able to develop and
use it because you are doubting yourself. Doubt is a talent killer. The more you
are doubting yourself the more you will lose your focus and your talent. Because
the only talent you have, you will not be able to use it or multiply it.
