The 7 P of having a Great Future

Having a great future is not a onetime activity. It is a journey, your journey. On this journey, there are things that you need to have to make your future a great future. The absence of any of these variables will have a negative effects or consequences on your future. Here are the 7 (seven) p’s of having a great future:

1.       Prayer: You must pray as well as work. - Legio Mariae. You must pray what you want or need or desired. What is prayer? Prayer is the act of communicating with a deity. It is a reverent petition to a deity. Prayer is the raising up of our heart and mind to God by thinking, singing, adoration, meditating, reflecting, pondering, and dreaming about your petition being communicated to God in a proper solemn manner and thanking Him for what He has done and He is still doing.

It is asking God to do good things in your life. Your prayer is the positive confession that you make. Prayer also involved talking positively about your dreams either to your friends, family, neighbor, colleague in the office, or just talking to yourself. You are praying because, you are confessing, using the power of your words. It involves every conversation between you and other people about yourself and your dreams.

In respective of the setting you find yourself, every words or confessions coming out of your mouth is termed prayer. Prayer is a must do activity because, you must either talk about your dreams, or you must think about your dreams, or you must ponder about your dreams, or you must reflect on your dreams. Success is a daily positive actions or activities which also include your prayer.

No one can go above the power of his or her prayer. Your prayer is both in words and action. Ponder on this; “One must pray as if all depend on that prayer and one must strive as if absolutely everything depended on that striving”. – The Saints. Your prayer keeps your dreams fresh in your heart and mind.

2.       Prepare: Prepare means to make ready or suitable or equip in advance for a particular purpose for some use, event, etc. if you’re going through hell keep going- Winston Churchill. To be successful you must accept all challenges that come your way. You can’t just accept the ones you like. - Mike Gafka. Do not be depressed by apparent failure, prepared, if bidden, to return a thousand times to the most disagreeable or most depressing duty. - Legio Mariae.

You must always be prepared or ready because, you will meet or face more than one unpleasant or difficult situations on your journey to the top or success. Your preparation for what is coming ahead is very critical and vital. Because you do not know what lies ahead. If you have prepared, you will be strong to deal or fight the obstacles that life is going to throw at you. You are able to fight till the end and go to the end of your strength. Why? Because, you have prepared for such.

Your being prepared, keeps you going, instead of desisting in the face of challenges or difficulties, you keep persisting. But for those who fail to prepared, the only option, they have is to desist and to give up. Success is not a magic nor favor or miracle.

You are going to die for it or kill yourself to get it. God counts on you and He cannot save you without you. So, you must get prepared.  Winning comes to those who take their time to prepared hard.  This is why, Abraham Lincoln once said, “I will study hard and wait. One day, my chance will come”.

3.       Purpose: Purpose is an anticipated outcome that is intended or that guides your planned actions. It is to reach a decision or decide or determine or make up your mind about something. It is the quality of being determined to do or achieve something; it is firmness of purpose. It is synonymous with diligence, perseverance, industry, pertinacity, persistency, determination.

You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to go to bed with satisfaction. - George Lorimer. Your purpose is that which you want to achieve. You must have a purpose and then decides on what to do to achieve your purpose. Your purpose is your drive or motivation. You cannot achieve anything when you do not have it as a purpose in your mind. People do what they do because of the purposes they have.

When you have a purpose, you will become determined to do something to make the purpose come through. You are living for a purpose. Having a purpose is key to having a great future. If you do have a purpose, why living? Our purposes are centered round this, ‘I will never rest until my good becomes better and my better becomes best’. Your purpose is your life.

4.       Perform: Perform means to get (something) done. It is to do one’s best, give one’s best, go all out, accomplish, take action, carry out, carry through, execute, fulfil. Good things come to people who wait, but better things come to those who go out and get them- Anonymous. Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better. - Jim Rohn.

Success is 99 percent my or your effort and 1 percent God’s input. If you want to see miracle, you must be the miracle. This is why Saint Theresa said, “Go to the end of your strength before you complain” and Saint Thomas Moore said, “The things I pray for, dear Lord, give me the grace to labor for”.  To perform means to do and to be at pains. You must do your work or perform your duty. It is the act of doing or performing your work or duty that brings your success home.

Nothing change until an action is performed or done. You can only solve your problems when you perform the actions that are required or expected to be performed. The answers to our problems lies in the performance of our works or duties. Most people think that favor is better than labor. That is why, they do not want to work that hard. I take the joy to state here again the words of Saint Thomas Moore,” The things I pray for, dear Lord, give me the grace to labor for”.

In performing works or doing your things, you need to work hard to be able to achieve those things. The focal point of perform is on working hard to overcome the obstacles or problems or challenges you have and to attain your success or victory.

You must take pains if really you want to shine like a star. The Bible said, work hard and become a leader, be lazy and you will not succeed. No pain, no palm; no thorn, no throne; no gall, no glory; no cross, no crown. – Legio Mariae.  Remember that nature does not forgive. And, until, you filled your jar with the right content, you will not get what you want. And your power of action must be equal to your desires or purposes. Our effort in achieving success can be as empty without undertaking active work.

5.       Prudence: Prudence is discretion in practical affair. It is knowing how to avoid embarrassment or distress. Discretion is the trait of judging wisely and objectively. Most times, most people tend to love acting in hasty manner without prudence.  The bible says, that poverty is for those who act hastily while the plans of a hardworking man result in earnings. Most times, most people choose to be poor because they are acting in hasty and rashly manner without prudence.

Prudence helps you to practice carefulness and thoughtfulness before acting or doing anything because it saves you from embarrassment or distress. Without carefulness and thoughtfulness, most people tend to neglect their duties, or responsibilities and act in a hasty or rashly manner. Before taking any major decision, prudence helps you to judge wisely between what is good and what is not good. And what you should do and what you should not do.

This place you in a better position to act on your decisions. Prudence reminds us that, we need to work hard while it is still day. In life, we are always presented with different choices to make. And the choice one make can make or harm him. So, we need to reflect or ponder or discern before going into final conclusion about the choices before us.

This is why John Oxenham stated thus:

”To every man there openth

Away, and ways, and a way

And the High soul climbs the High way

And the Low soul gropes the low,

And in between, on the misty fiats,

The rest drift to and fro.

And to every man there openth

A High way and a low,

And everyman decideth

The way his soul shall go,”

In order to prevent ourselves from unnecessary mistakes, embarrassment or distress, prudence come into play here. A deep look at John Oxenham’s composition, reveals that everyone must make decision about the choices he or she is going to make. Every man is going to choose between climbing the high way and groping the low.

The high way is a tough way while the low way is an easy way. Why is the high way a tough way and the low way the easy way? Because, the high way is empty of flitting or temporary or urgent or immediate pleasures and the low way is full of fleeting or brief pleasures. Most people do not love to work that hard, so, they tend to instead of climbing the high way, they love groping the low.

Prudence helps you to take the right decision after careful and deep thinking on which way is the best to go. Many people fail in life due to lack of prudence when making or taking decisions about their choices. So, to have a great future, one need prudence.

6.       Patience: Patience is good-natured tolerance of delay or incompetence. When you have worked for what you have prayed for, the outcome or result may not come quickly as expected. This is where patience come in. Patience keeps one’s faith and hope strong. Without patience, the tendency to quit or give up on hope and your dreams and yourself or even on God is sure or certain.

Because of lack of patience, many people have ended up doing what they ought not to do. The loss of patience has made a lot of people to derail from the right path or from doing the right things. They stop doing the things they are supposed to do and be doing even when they are closer to their success.  Having patience keeps the mind stable. Patience has nothing to do with being lazy.

It is the quality of a hard working person. Working hard to achieve one’s dreams requires patience, because working hard is pain. No one can bear pains without patience and pain is the requirement for gain. Do not be depressed by apparent failure, prepared, if bidden, to return a thousand times to the most disagreeable or most depressing duty. - Legio Mariae.

I love what Abraham Lincoln said about patience, “I will study hard and wait. One day, my chance will come”. I take the pleasure to rephrase it this way, ’I will work hard and wait. One day, my chance will come’.

7.       Perseverance:  Perseverance is persistent determination. It is the act of persisting or persevering; continuity or repeating behavior. Perseverance is an attribute of diligence. It means persistent determination. It is the act of persevering; persistence in anything undertaken; continued pursuit or prosecution of any business or enterprise begun. It is steadiness, persistence, persistency, constancy, steadfastness, resolution, and indefatigableness. It is the act of persisting or persevering; continuing or repeated behavior. It is your perseverance that make you to shine.

Perseverance is one of the way to having a great future. Your perseverance make you to be able to fight till the end, helps you to know that there need never be discouragement, you are able to stand firm no matter how life punches you. It helps you to stay focus on your dreams and make you to reject you are too old to chase your dreams.

And encourage you to accept, you are never too old to catch your dreams and it is never too late to work hard to chase and catch your dreams.  And you are not too late to start over again. With perseverance, people shine faster than others who choose to desist. And you are able to finish your race.  You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it- Margaret Thatcher. You cannot achieve this without perseverance.

At the bottom of all really great work must be the readiness to give oneself whole and entire. Without this readiness, what one or you is doing has no basis or effect. Some situations in life will put your faith and hope on trial. In the face of these difficulties, nevertheless, do not let go of your faith and hope and your dreams. The test of your faith and hope is the difficulty of the tasks or works or duties. And the merit of your faith and hope is in the conquering and overcoming of such difficulties.

A persevering attitude will not be achieve if excellence is not aimed at. A perseverance in the work to achieve success is in itself heroic. I love what Legio Mariae said on perseverance, “Do not be depressed by apparent failure. Prepared, if bidden, to return a thousand times to the most disagreeable or most depressing duty”.  Without perseverance, sooner or later the work or duty is abandoned.

This is why to succeed, one must learn to develop the universal attitude of refusal to accept or admit defeat. Perseverance is an essential and vital component of any real achievement. This is what Legio Mariae has to say, “Real achievement is depended upon sustained effort, which in turn is the outcome of an unconquerable will to win. Essential to the perseverance of such a will is that it bend not often nor at all”. Show me one person that achieve great success without perseverance. I doubt if such a person exist. So, perseverance is a key factor in having a great future.

Every young person looking forward to have a great future, must display these qualities discussed above. A breach of one will have a negative impact on your future. You need a combination of all the qualities.
