11 Bitter Consequences of Pretending to Be Who You Are Not
Most people take the pleasure in pretending to be who they are not. I do not know why people love to pretend to be who they are not. I do not know the joy they get from it. May be on immediate or short term basis, it helps them to boast their self-esteem. But unfortunately, they are just living for the moment. Pretending is the act of giving a false appearance. Pretend is the enactment of a pretense. It is make believe with the intent to deceive. Pretense is the act of giving a false appearance. It is pretending with intention to deceive. It is a false or unsupportable quality. Pretension is a false or unsupportable quality. It is the quality of being pretentious (behaving or speaking in such a manner as to create a false appearance of great importance or worth). The truth is that, people must plan their future and take their destiny in their hands. Living for the moment or pretending to be someone else instead of yourself can come with big consequences. Here are some of the consequences:
1. You become prodigal in your spending: When you are faking to be rich when you are not, and because of trying to please your friends or some other people, you may become prodigal in your spending. You are not careful in the way you spend your money. You would not think properly before spending your money.
What you are doing is okay by you because some other foolish persons okay
it as well. When it comes to spending money carelessly, you will always see or
meet people who will okay it. The more you become prodigal in your spending,
the more you will become poor. The truth is that spending big does not
contribute to your growth.
2. You may or will take pleasure in great luxury: The habit of pretending to be whom you are not or rich can make you to pick interest in great luxury with the intent to please other people or your flesh. Living in great luxury is living expensive lifestyle. You spend your money in an extravagant way or manner. You will often to so just to be pleasing people or your corrupt passions.
Sometimes, the people you see taking pleasure in great luxury may have worked hard for it why you have not. Some people may be doing so on a short-term because they are faking their lifestyle or they are pretending to be rich but you do not know.
Taking pleasure in great luxury without an investment can cause your
poverty. One reason some people never really achieve their dreams is that they
love taking pleasure in great luxury.
3. You will keep impressing other people negatively: Sometimes, some people pretend to be rich just to impress some other people negatively. The habit of trying to impress others is one of the major reason, why many people love faking to be who they are not. This habit is very common this days in relationship and friendship.
Your friends only tend to like and respect you because you are rich but when you not rich, they do not care. In order to earn the love and respect and admiration from others, you will keep impressing others by faking to be rich or be who you are not.
In dating relationship, most people prefer to pretend to be rich because it is believed that if you do act that way, you may not get what you want. This is why most young men love to fake being rich in dating relationship.
Because, you want to impress someone or some people, the only way out is
to pretend or fake to be who you are not or rich. The more you fake to impress
others, the more you will spend to meet up. This means that, the habit of
impressing people or someone can also contribute in making you poorer.
4. You may find it hard postponing your gratification: Postponing your gratification is a very hard thing to do ordinarily and then, couple with the issue of pretending to be rich or to be who you are not will make it even harder to postpone your gratification in favor of the bigger gain in the long-run or in the long-term.
When you find it too hard to postpone your gratification, you will surely
become poorer. The prodigal son is a key example here. He was unable to
postpone his gratification. And what happen later, to him? He became poorer
than he was before indulging in gratification.
5. You will form the poor habit of comparing yourself with people who are bigger than you in finance: Pretense can blindfold you and you will start comparing yourself with people who are already bigger than you financially. Because, you are pretending to be rich, you will be comparing yourself stupidly with the rich. Anything they do, you will want to do it. Unknowingly to you, you are carelessly wasting your little or small finance you have.
The question is, what do you intend to achieve when you are busy
comparing yourself with other people. Pretense do not care to know. What I am
discovering now is that, people take pleasure in comparing themselves with
others just for fun. And they love the fun. But unfortunately, the fun is
pulling you down.
6. You are living your life on false hope: When you are pretending to be rich, it gives you a false hope that you are rich but deeply, you are not rich. False hope does not count. It has nothing to do with you becoming rich or successful. To be successful, you, you need a lively and a false hope.
What is the difference between lively hope and false hope? Lively hope makes you do what other people would not want or like to do while false hope is the hope without the actions required. The actions required by hope, are not performed. That makes the hope a false hope.
When you think you are rich when you are not rich and you are not doing
what you are supposed to be doing, you are living on false hope. False hope
does not count because God counts on you.
7. You will be indulging in false competition: Pretending to be rich when you are not rich, can force you to indulge in false competition. False competition is competition that is not true. The other people you are competing with them do not know whether they are competing with you. You are the one who created the competition for yourself.
Most times, people spend their money carelessly and without thoughtfulness. Because, they are falsely, competing with their friends or neighbors or colleagues or other significant people around them. False competition drains one’s pocket of his or her hard earned money. Everything others do, you will want to do them. To them, is normal. To you, you are faking it.
False competition is one reason many young people do not get to achieve
their cherished purposes. The funny thing here is that, most of the people you
are competing with, do not know whether they are competing with you and whether
you are even existing.
8. The habit can prevent you from catching your dream: Pretending to who you are not can prevent you from achieving your dreams. When you love pretending to be who you are not, you will end up doing every other things but what you are supposed to do and be doing. This habit is the habit of putting your pleasure first before your duty.
This is true because, when you are pretending to be who you are not, the tendency to get distracted from your duty is very high and sure. At this point, your focus is more with giving yourself pleasure when in the actual sense, you have not actually attained that feet.
When you are always distracted from your duty or responsibility, how can
you achieve your goal or dream? It will be very, very difficult to achieve that
your goal or dream.
9. You will love copying other people way of living: When you are living in pretense, you will always be carry away in copying other people way of living which may be normal to them. Rich individuals live their lives according to their taste and that is normal to them but the reverse is the case when you are pretending to be okay when you are not okay.
In the first instance, it is normal but in the second instance, it is
artificial or faking. In this case, you will be forcing yourself to do things
to proof a point that you are really what you are displaying. In this case, it
is not normal. The disadvantage here is that, people fail most often, because
they love copying other people wrongly.
10. You will experience regret: Most times, people experience regret, as a result of pretending to be whom they are not. Regret do come later. Regret do not come immediately, it is the least expected when you are pretending to be who you are not. It will surely come. The regret comes as a result of doing what you are not supposed to be doing.
Your hard earn money, have being wasted as a result of pretending to be who you are not. The more you are pretending to be somebody else, the more you tend to spend to meet up with the act. In most cases, people pretend to be rich or living well when they are not.
By so doing, they spend carelessly their money in order to fit into the
false image they create for themselves. Spending your hard money on pretense
always come with regret. So, be careful.
11. You will not always get your priority right: This act of pretending to be who you are not will make to have difficulty in setting or getting your priority right. You will always not be able to fix your right priority. The inability to set your priority right will make you to end up doing the less important things.
Wisdom is the ability to do the first thing first. But a lack of wisdom will make you to do the last thing first and then do the first thing last. Because you are pretending to be who you not, you will be doing the last thing first and be doing the last thing first.
The reason why many people do not get to achieve their dreams is this problem of not getting their priority right. When your priority is not always right, you will be doing what you are not supposed to be doing. And what you are supposed to be doing, you will not be doing it. This limit you from catching your success.
Pretending
to be who you are not may promote your self-esteem in the short term but in the
long-run, it has a bitter consequences that you would not like to experience.
Why not learn to prevent these bitter consequences?
