Six Grounds You Should Not Be Hard On Yourself
Why are you hard on yourself? Is it that you have not tried enough? When you are hard on yourself, it will take away your joy and bring in undue sadness and frustration. Which will further compound your problem. You do not need to be hard on yourself for every evil under the sun, there is a remedy or there may be none. If there is one look for it and if there is none, never mind. Do not be hard on yourself if you have try or given out your best. Here are some grounds you should not be hard on yourself:
1. 1. Man propose but God disposes: Man proposes means you are planning your own things and doing your own things but God is the one that have the final say or verdict. Your wish or expectation may be far from God’s wish for you.
Your time may not be in line with God’s time. It is often said that god’s time is the best. If that is so, why worrying yourself unnecessary? If you have given your best into what you should be doing, without compromising standards, why being hard on yourself? It does not worth it.
2. 2. If you can’t fly, run; and if you can’t run, walk: Getting to success can take place or happened in different ways. Some people success rate is faster than some other people. The truth here is that there is no one way to achieve your success. Some people can fly, you must not fly if you can’t. Some people can run, you must not run if you can’t.
The problem is when you are stagnant, you are not moving. But when you are moving even slowly, you will surely get there. Do not be hard on yourself because you cannot fly when you can run very well. Do not be hard on yourself because you cannot run faster when you can walk well.
Do not be hard on yourself because you cannot walk when you can crawl. Do not be hard on yourself as far as you are not stagnant but you are moving no matter how very slow the movement may be. Give yourself the chance to keep moving, it matter much.
3. 3. You can’t know it all and you can’t have it all: It is not possible for you to know it all or for you to have it all. It is only God that knows it all and have it all. Since you are not God why are you hard on yourself for not knowing it all and having it all? No one has or have the monopoly of knowledge. You know some and don’t know some that is ok. You have some and don’t have some that is ok.
When you are hard on yourself for not knowing and having it all, you are doing yourself a disservice. The question that comes to mind here is, must I or you know it all and have it all? The answer is no. It become a greedy thing for you to know it all and have it all. You are not God but you are god. The small god does not need to know it all and have it all.
4. 4. Every person is subject to mistakes: People make mistakes day in, day out. No one if perfect except God. People are bound to make mistakes and mistakes are learning means. Most mistakes are not intentional. Intentional mistakes are not mistakes, they are offences or crimes. But real mistakes are not intentional.
That is they are not planned before executed. They are accidental occurances. So do not be hard on yourself for making some mistakes. You are not the only one that make mistakes, every person do make mistakes. It is only God that makes no mistakes.
Even God that is perfect, people do blame Him. What about you? Do you think that you will be free from people’s blames? I do not think so. Always see yourself that you are good enough but that you are not perfect.
5. 5. If you can’t beat them, leave them or join them as the case may be: There is this popular saying, if you can’t beat them, join them. But the question that comes to mind is must you join them? The based line is what are they doing? What they are doing, is it the things they should be doing? If what they are doing are what they should be doing, if you cannot beat them to stop doing those things then you should join them.
This is the only condition you can join them. But if what they are doing are not the things they should be doing, leave them. Do not join them. You do not need to be hard on yourself for joining them when you can’t beat them when what they are doing are the things they should be doing.
6. 6. It is just a matter of time and chance: The race is not to the swift, and the battle not to the strong. It is a matter of time and chance that happened to them all.
When you are doing what you should be doing, when you are doing the right things at the right times, when you give the best into your works, when you bring all your intelligence and all you strength into your works, when you kill yourself or bother yourself or inconvenience yourself to gain the crown or the throne, when you always standby the work assigned to you, and you avoid overpampering yourself just to gain the long-lived profit and things doesn’t workout the way you want or plan do not be hard on yourself, you have tried. It is a matter of time and chance. Your time will definitely come.
Keep your hope alive and believed in yourself and keep doing all the things that you should be doing. No condition in life is permanent. It is just a matter of time and chance and do not be hard on yourself because your time and chance have not come.
The above points are just a reminder why you should not be hard on yourself. Any time you tend to be hard on yourself, learn to cope with your adversity
