12 Different Ways People Choose Not to Shine
Everyone want to win. Every want to succeed. Everyone want to get to the top. Everyone want his or her dream to come through. Every one want to feel the benefits or the gains. It is often said that, nothing can stop you and nothing can pull you back. I take the pleasure to rephrase it again. Nothing can stop you but you and nothing can pull you back except you. All you need is you. In as much as everyone wants to win or succeed, or reach the top not everyone know how to shine. To shine means to be distinguished or eminent. On daily basis or occurrences, many people are choosing not to shine. Below are different way people choose not to shine:
1. 1. Laziness/sloth: laziness is the inactivity one experienced as a consequences of dislike for work. Laziness or sloth is the apathy and inactivity in the practice of virtue (personified as one of the deadly sins). The word apathy means an absence of emotion or enthusiasm. It is the trait of lacking enthusiasm for or interest in things generally.
Inactivity is the state of being inactive. It is a disposition to remain inactive or inert. It is being inactive; less active. It is idleness; habitual indisposition to action or exertion; want of energy; sluggishness. When you dislike work, you will definitely become lazy the more. Lazy people always live to eat.
Sloth is a disinclination to work or exert yourself. It is disinclination, hesitancy, hesitation, indisposition, and reluctance to work or take action or be active. Laziness is the cause why most people are not succeeding. It will be very difficult for one to shine when he or she is very lazy or slothful.
2. 2. Dodging (1): Avoidance/Turning away- Avoidance or turning away means deliberately avoiding; keeping away from or preventing from happening. This is one aspect dodging. Going by the meaning here, the act of deliberately avoiding one’s duty or responsibility is a way of not wanting to shine.
How can you shine when you are avoiding what you should do and be doing? Success requires that, the problem should be faced and dealt with to get the prize. Facing your problems are prices to greatness. Until, you stand up and face the obstacles, you will never conquer the obstacles.
If you must shine, do not dodge or avoid or
turn away from facing your responsibilities or duties. Most people deliberately
avoid what they ought to be doing or should be doing because they want to
pamper or please themselves.
3. 3. Dodging (2): Escape/Evasion- Escape or evasion is nonperformance of something distasteful that you are supposed to do. It is an avoidance of danger or difficulty. This is another aspect of dodging. The emphasis here is on failure to perform distasteful or difficult works or duties that people are supposed to do.
By the meaning here, we can conclude by saying that, most people do not shine and are not shinning because they tactically or intentionally fail to perform works that are distasteful or difficult that they are supposed to do. Most people escape or evade distasteful or difficult works because such works make them uncomfortable and unhappy. We can now begin to see why most often, even when most people are actually active, yet they find it hard to shine.
The single critical reason for this is that most people love to leave behind undone the most critical, vital and necessary works. All critical, vital and necessary works are distasteful or difficult. That is the truth. You have to force or push yourself to do them even when they would not make you comfortable and happy.
The habit of not wanting to perform
distasteful or difficult works or duties or tasks or responsibilities is what
is making you not to shine or preventing you to shine. Unless and until, you
stop dodging distasteful or difficult works or duties or responsibilities, you
will never shine the way you should.
4. 4. Negligence/Carelessness: Negligence is the trait of neglecting responsibilities and lacking concern. Carelessness is the quality of not being careful or taking pains. Negligence or carelessness is the failure to act with the prudence that a reasonable person would exercise under the same circumstances.
Most people do not shine because they do not want to take pains. So they choose negligence and carelessness over diligence and carefulness. Can you shine when you are neglecting your responsibilities? Or is it possible to shine when you are not taking pains? These are some questions that come to mind.
For those who show negligence and
carelessness towards their responsibilities, the answers to the questions above
are, you cannot shine when you are neglecting your duties and not wanting to
take pains in doing your works.
5. 5. Heedlessness (1): Mindlessness/Rashness- Heedlessness or mindlessness or rashness is the trait of acting rashly and without prudence. Prudence is discretion in practical affairs while the word rashly means in a hasty and foolhardy manner. Acting rashly (in a hasty and foolhardy manner) and without prudence is one way most people choose to be poor.
Acting rashly make some people happy and comfortable but, yet makes lots of people poor. You cannot achieve your cherished desires when you are rash in your decisions.
A deeper look at the problem of acting
rashly and without prudence reveals that, the works will not be done properly,
proper and concentrated attentions will be lacking, there will be some omission
here and there and some of the works or duties will not be done or performed at
all. So, one way most people choose not to shine is to act rashly and without
prudence.
6. 6. Heedlessness (2): Unmindfulness/Inadvertency- Heedlessness or unmindfulness or inadvertency is the trait of forgetting or ignoring your responsibilities. The habit of forgetting or ignoring your responsibilities is self-harming than self-pleasing. You are pleasing yourself but as well harming yourself.
Between self-harming and self-pleasing, the one that carries the weight is self-harming. The more you are forgetting or ignoring your responsibilities, the more you are harming yourself. The self-harming here is that you will not be able to achieve what you wanted to achieve. To shine, you must go through your problems instead of forgetting or ignoring them.
You cannot forget or ignore your responsibilities
and still expect it to be done when you have not done anything concerning
getting the responsibilities done. So, forgetting or ignoring one’s responsibilities
is a way most people choose not shine.
7. 7. Developing a weak /soft attitude: Attitude is a complex mental state involving beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in certain ways. When your beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in a certain way is on the negative side, and characterized by lack of vitality or vigor or interest or energy, your attitude is a weak or soft or poor one.
This kind of attitude will make you to accept self-made impossibilities or false impossibilities which are not real impossibilities as impossibilities. And thus, those possibilities become real impossibilities in your life. Most of often, having a poor attitude to life has led many people to push aside what they are capable of doing and should do.
When your attitude is soft or poor, you
will have difficulty surmounting your problems and challenges. Soft people do
not win their battles. In the world I see, people with soft or poor attitude do
not always win their wars. One of the way most people choose not to shine is to
develop a soft or poor or weak attitude to life.
8. 8. Burying of talents: There are many people in life who know their talents. But their only problem is that of burying their talents. Many other people are struggling with finding their talents while the others who have already know or discover theirs are going to bury their own talents.
It is a deliberate act of not taking interest in your talent. Your talent or talents are not meant to be buried but to be use to improve your life and to impact other people lives positively. The act of burying one’s talent is the beginning of choosing not to shine.
Burying your talent will make you to lose
your talent. You cannot shine when you are burying your talent or talents.
9. 9. Lack of poise/lack of brace: Poise or brace means prepare oneself for something unpleasant or difficult. Going by the meaning of poise or brace cited here, it can be said that, most people often, do not prepare to meet or face something unpleasant or difficult.
They are mostly incline to do only things that are simple. And make them comfortable and happy. People shine more when they prepare for unpleasant or difficult things. The failure to prepare for something unpleasant or difficult, often make most people to desist instead of persist.
Success is mostly tied to doing the
difficult things. Lack of poise has being one of the way most people are
choosing not to shine.
10. 10. They fail or refuse to use their gifts: This is another aspect of talents. It focus more on not using the talents that you have. Here, you are not burying your talent but you are refusing to use it. When you fail or refuse to use your talent, you are ignoring or forgetting your talent.
People who fail to use their talent often do so because of self-doubt and neglect of duty. If you do not use your talent, you will lose your talents. The more you use your talent, the more your talent keep multiplying.
For the use of your talent bring in, more
revelations. You cannot shine when you are refusing to use your talents.
11. 11. Self-gratification/Gratification: Self-gratification is the act of satisfying your own desires and giving yourself pleasure. Gratification is the act of gratifying or pleasing, either the mind, the taste, or the appetite; as, the gratification of the palate, of the appetites, of the senses, of the desire, of the heart.
Self-gratification is preventing many people from shinning. People prefer to gratify their desires whether good or corrupt. They cannot discipline themselves to learn to postpone their gratification in favor of durable gain or long-term profit.
The prodigal son fail to shine because he
was more interested in gratifying himself than to discipline himself in favor
of the durable gain. He allowed himself to be governed by fleeting pleasure.
And at the end of the day, he fail to shine.
12. 12. Quit/give up: Quit means put an end to a state or an activity. It is to give up in the face of defeat of lacking hope; admit defeat. In the face of defeat, most people tend to lose their hope and accept such defeat. You need to trust yourself into winning before you can win.
You are born to win. But you choose not to win. In most cases, that is what most of us do. We choose not win or shine by the act of admitting defeat. Before, you can start thinking of how you will shine, you need to learn to have the unshakable confidence called hope. Having hope helps you to stay strong and focus.
I will never rest until my good become better and my better become best is the anthem of those who actually shine. Those who shine do not give up until they achieve the best. One easy and simple way most people choose not to shine, is to quit or give up. Because, giving up is the only option they can think of. To shine, your best option, is to refuse to quit or give up.
Why will you choose not to shine? I think
most people choose not to shine out of ignorance or unknowingly, to them by
their inactions and actions. Do not allow any of the above to affects your
shine.
