8 Reasons Why Most People
Avoid Doing the Right Things
It is not easy to do the right things but it is still good
to do the right things. Whi
1. 1. Low self-confidence or self-distrust: We said earlier that the right things can be sometime or somehow difficult to do or carry out. If it so, it then means that self-confidence, bravery or boldness is required to be able to carry out the right things or do the right things. Self-confidence is a priceless commodity or gift you need to have to help you to stay on course. The opposite of confidence is doubt or distrust.
Confidence strengthens you while doubt weakens you. To do any substantial good, you need to summon the confidence to it. But where confidence or self-confidence is lacking and doubt or distrust took the better of you, you will avoid doing those things you are supposed to be doing or what you are expected to do. Having self-distrust is a big distraction on one’s part. Self-distrust or self-doubt is one of the reason most people try to avoid doing the right things.
2. 2. Upholding a wrong principles: What are principles? Principles are rules of conduct or behavior that guides the individual on how he or she does things or how he or she response to situations, or how he or she answer the call to duty or service either for oneself or others or the organization or society. There are so many principle out there that everyone accept or choose or create that guide or guides his or her conducts.
Some principles are soft or weak while others are strong. The strong principles follow the laws of nature. They are not stated or created to displease anyone but on what is required. Sometimes, they are very harsh in their tune. While the weak or soft principles are not based on the laws of nature but of man. They are stated or created to please the mind and the body or the flesh.
The soft principles are a kind of distractions. So, people avoid doing the right things because they uphold the wrong principles. For example, the principle that says duty first and pleasure thereafter does not go down well with people. Instead, they prefer coining it thus, pleasure first and duty thereafter. You cannot achieve much of your dreams by practicing, pleasure first and duty thereafter.
3. 3. No big aim or target to catch: There are many people in our world who have no big aim or target to catch. They do not dream big. They have nowhere to go. They are comfortable in their comfort zone. Our achieving dreams or cherished desires or highest purposes fall under the right things. People avoid doing the right things because they have no big aim or target to catch. When you have no big aim or target, the tendency to go after your corrupt passions will dominate you.
In short, it is the major reason for why people go after or pursue their corrupt passions or inclinations, disinclination to work or indisposition to actions. It is also the reason for negligence, or neglect of duty, non-performance of work or duty. Most people find it too hard or difficult to withstand depressing duties or distasteful duties. When you have no big aim or target to catch, desisting is preferable.
You can see that if you are not driven by something bigger than you, you cannot or will not succeed. Those who persevere are those with big aim or target to catch. They are not discourage persisting until they get or catch their aim or target or the object in view.
4. 4. Soft or weak or poor attitude: The attitude of people speak volume. Each person is dominated by his or her attitude. Your attitude can be negative or positive. Through our attitude we accept certain things as either possible or impossible after imagine them as possible or impossible. Some people focus more on impossibilities while only a few people focus on possibilities or opportunities.
People tend to avoid doing certain things which are somehow difficult. That is why some people can be hardworking doing some easy things and become lazy in doing certain other difficult things. In the face of some difficult things, they dodge or evade the work or duty or task. In some situations, some duties are too disagreeable or depressing or distasteful. People with poor attitude will fail to stand by their duties or works.
Simply, because some work or duties are the most disagreeable or most depressing or very distasteful does not mean they are wrong things. Having the right attitude is often the problem. Poor or soft attitude always prevents or distracts the individual form doing the right things. That is the reason why it is often said, that soft people do not win wars.
5. 5. Laziness: Laziness is the inactivity one experience as result of dislike for work. Laziness is not a virtue. It is a vice. Laziness is another distraction. It focus more on experiencing pleasure than the doing of a work or duty. Laziness makes some people happy and comfortable. It gives people short-term pleasure. But causes more harm than good. Love pleasure ends but a moment but love pleasure ends one’s whole life. The things we loved the most, which include laziness often kill us the most. It also said that, work hard and become a leader; be lazy and you will not succeed. Laziness steals people cherished happiness. So, one of the reason people avoid doing the right things is laziness.
6. 6. They love chasing their corrupt desires or inclinations or their flesh: People often chase more their corrupt interests that they have no time to chase the right things. Their corrupt interests influences them more than their dreams. At other times, their corrupt interests become their cherished purposes and they go after these interests with all their intelligence and might or strength. The more people go after their corrupt interests, the more the right things will be left undone. The result of falling in love with the corrupt interests more than the right things, make it easy for people to avoid doing the right things.
7. 7. Lesser or less or low ideals: Ideals are standards of behaviors that are aimed at or served as models for good behaviors. They are what you look up to. According to Lecky the historian, the world is governed by its ideals. The individual person is also governed by his or her ideals. Higher ideals uplift mankind. The individual person is uplifted by his or her higher ideals as well. The lesser or low ideals cannot uplift the people who practices them. The type of ideals accepted by people or an individual will help him or her to decide whether to do the right things or avoid doing the right things. The more low ideals people operate, the more they tend or love to avoid doing the right things.
8. 8. Indiscipline: Discipline means a system of rules of conduct or method of practice. It is the trait of being well behaved. It is training to improve strength or self-control. Discipline is the training to act in accordance with established rules. It is a system of essential rules and duties. It is also the subjection to rule; submissiveness to order and control; habit of obedience. Looking at the above meanings of discipline, discipline helps people to do the things they ought or should do without necessary being forced to do it. Doing the things you should do or doing the right things require discipline to achieve it. Without discipline, most people will be doing the wrong things or they will avoid doing the right things.
Any time people avoid doing the right things,
the above variables can be traced to why they do so. And when people do the
right things the opposite is the case.
